Lately, I’ve been transfixed by a lot of heavier, faster and nastier music than normal.  I’ve got no explanation – it just is what it is.  Along with Fucked Up’s epochal David Comes To Life, I’ve been enjoying the hell out of IceAge’s debut LP, New Brigade.  This quartet of barely legal Danes traffic in a dark, gritty form of post-punk that nods to early Joy Division, Wire,  and In Utero-era Nirvana.  Their debut LP, New Brigade, harkens back to the halcyon days of punk – 12 raw, spiky  tracks clocking in at a lean 24 minutes.  In those 24 minutes, these kids manage to let you know who informed them while still carving out their own cold, grey slice of punk that befits their name.
