Gang Gang Dance – “Mindkilla”

On 2008’s Saint Dymphna, Gang Gang Dance finally managed to focus all their manic energy and disparate genre fusing into eleven compact, thrilling songs.  The album was tighter, more danceable and flat-out better than anything they’d composed before with “House Jam” leading the charge.  Pitchfork’s Stuart Berman put it best: “…”House Jam” marks the point where Gang Gang Dance turn into the Dance Dance Gang.”  The band is gearing up to release the follow-up, Eye Contact, and the songs they’ve released so far, “Glass Jar” and “Mindkilla”, feel like a natural progression from Saint Dymphna.  Compared to the 11-minute monster jam “Glass Jar”, “Mindkilla” is laser-focused dance-pop – albeit pop that inhabits the same dark forests as The Knife’s Silent Shout.

Eye Contact is out 5/10 via 4AD.
