Lord Huron – “When Will I See You Again”

Ben Schneider (aka Lord Huron) grew up in Michigan near – you guessed it – Lake Huron.  While we’re all used to hearing music influenced by lives lived oceanside (surf-rock, chillwave, beach-pop, etc.), I imagine living near a great lake is something else entirely.  Although Schneider writes and records alone, his music never feels like it was made by anything less than a full band.  His two EP’s, Mighty and Into The Sun (both released in 2010), are both rustic and psychedelic: the reverb-drenched folk & high, lonesome wail of Jim James and Robin Pecknold sit comfortably next to the gauzy, kaleidoscopic psych of Panda Bear.  “When Will I See You Again” is Lord Huron’s finest moment to date and, like all great break-up songs, it ends not on a note of spite, but one of acceptance and hope: “It’s time to let go/Goodbye and so long/All the best along the way/Couldn’t I keep you another day?/When will I see you again?”

Mighty EP is available now on Bandcamp.
