The Joy Formidable – “I Don’t Want To See You Like This”

It’s been heartening to see The Joy Formidable’s stateside profile rise sharply this year.  Between long overdue crit praise and larger, lauded live shows, the Welsh trio is on the verge of a legitimate break-out.  Their debut EP, A Balloon Called Moaning, was given a proper release earlier this year and they also put out two 7″ singles, “Popinjay” and “I Don’t Want To See You Like This”, in anticipation of their forthcoming debut LP, tentatively titled The Big Roar, which should be out in January.  With a sound that harkens back to the iconic sounds of ’90s alt-rock and Brit-pop (Smashing Pumpkins, The Breeders, and Pulp to name a few), it would easy as well as lazy to label them a “retro” band.  They’re slowly, steadily carving out their own little corner of the soundworld.  Not to mention, frontwoman Ritzy Bryan is a rockstar in the making.

I Don’t Want To See You Like This 7″ is out now on iTunes.
