To quote Tracy Morgan, here is a truth bomb: Marnie Stern is a fucking geetar hero.  The kind that kids with plastic Nintendo guitars are emulating and deifying.  She’s basically Eddie Van Halen with an ear for dizzying pop hooks and a fondness for joyful emoting.  Yes, that’s why her head-spinning, technical prowess is most remarkable: because its applied to stupendously infectious pop songs that make you want to sing your heart out.  For her forthcoming eponymous third album, Marnie is injecting a bit more breathing room into her typically blitzkrieg compositions.  The album’s opening track, “For Ash”, is a tribute to her ex-boyfriend who committed suicide.  True to her form, its a celebration of his life, and not a moment of mourning.

Marnie Stern is out 10/5 via Kill Rock Stars.
