Isaac Brock hasn’t recorded under his nom de plume, Ugly Casanova, since his 2002 solo debut, Sharpen Your Teeth, but he’s reviving the old moniker for a special project. Along with The Shins’ James Mercer, Mason Jennings and Jack Johnson (UGH),  Brock is contributing some brand new songs to the soundtrack for 180° South, a soon-to-be-released documentary film that chronicles a grizzled crew’s quest to create a new route on Mt. Fitzroy in Ventura, California.  Built with nothing but banjo and trumpet, “Lay Me Down” does what Brock’s songs have always done: capture the feel of the West’s jagged, sprawling vistas.  Let’s not forget the man wrote a song called “So Much Beauty In Dirt”.

180° South is out 6/22 via Brushfire.
