Tame Impala – “Runway, Houses, City, Clouds”

There’s a timeless, intoxicating quality to freaky, drugged-out psych that’s rather difficult to articulate – you simply feel it (brutha).  Case in point: The Flaming Lips’ monumental Embryonic was a “return to form” and one of the best albums of 2009.  As those valiant warhorses continue their tour in support of Embryonic, they should really consider giving Tame Impala a call to support them.  These four Aussies are purveyors of tripped-out psych that owes as much to the modern masters (The Flaming Lips, Dungen, Caribou) as it does Jimi Hendrix, Cream and the Beatles (at their most LSD-addled).  In fact, singer Kevin Parker is a dead ringer for John Lennon at times.  “Runway, Houses, City, Clouds” is the shifting, fuzz-encrusted epic from their forthcoming debut LP, Innerspeaker.  Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream.

Innerspeaker is out 6/8 on Modular.

Also, check out the darkly hilarious video for “Solitude Is Bliss”.  Seriously, it’s one of the most conceptually entertaining music videos I’ve seen in….a while.

Ridiculously good. Can’t wait to hear more.

Be sure to check out their single “Sundown Syndrome” (it’s a non-album track). It kicks mass amounts of ass.
