The Love Language – “Heart To Tell”

Thanks to the aggressive urging of a PopMatters cohort, I have fallen head over heels for the Love Language.  Good timing too as the band’s sophomore album, Libraries, is being released this summer.  TLL’s impresario, Stuart McLamb, certainly isn’t reinventing the wheel here, but he’s a masterful songwriter who churns out the kind of shambolic, overly-earnest, lo-fi pop that should endear itself to fans of the Smith Westerns, Forest Fire and Girls.  On “Heart To Tell”, Lamb manages to channel Elvis and  Big Star into a ramshackle jam tailor-made for the hot months ahead.

Libraries is out 7/13 via Merge.
