The Thermals – “Separate”

Yesterday was Record Store Day and one of the many treats to be obtained was a split 7″ b/t The Thermals and The Cribs.  The Thermals offered up “Separate” – presumably off their forthcoming new album tentatively titled Personal Life.  On “Separate”, The Thermals bring the tempo down a notch and get knee-deep in ’90s nostalgia.  Between the hand-claps and slow, slippery, almost-surf guitar hook, I’m getting a serious Sleater-Kinney vibe from this tune.  Last year’s Now We Can See made me a Thermals fan, so I’m definitely digging the more contemplative Hutch Harris.

The Thermals/Cribs Record Store Day 7″ is available 4/20 via itunes.

Personal Life is out 9/7 via Kill Rock Stars.
